Another electric shock to the sun. The car rental company is getting rid of Tesla, the reason is not surprising | Currently.cz

Car rental company Sixt SE has reduced the number of electric cars in its fleet, as customers prefer to rent cars with a combustion engine. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing the company’s announcement. Rival car rental company Hertz Global Holdings took a similar step.

The car rental company Sixt has about 170,000 cars. Of this number, nearly ten thousand were electric last year. The company did not mention the number of electric cars in the fleet at the moment.

Both Hertz and Sixt have said in recent months that they would get rid of Tesla cars because they were expensive to maintain and Tesla’s aggressive price cuts were undermining the cars’ resale value. This poses a threat to the rental car fleet if they want to sell used cars in the future. Therefore, they often agree with car companies to buy back these cars to protect themselves from a drop in the cars’ residual values.

Hertz said in April that it plans to remove 10,000 electric cars from its fleet as lower rental rates and higher maintenance costs have cut into profits. The residual value, ie the value of the car after a certain period of time in operation, fell faster for electric cars than for similar models with a combustion engine.
