LINZ. Immediate measures to calm traffic on Humboldtstrasse demanded on Thursday the SPÖ Innenstadt-Süd with a sign campaign. Among other things, the currently provisional protective path near Schillerstrasse can be converted into a fixed zebra crossing.
Humboldtstrasse recently achieved sad notoriety due to a tragic accident that put a spotlight on the growing tuning and racing scene in Linz. The SPÖ Innenstadt-Süd welcomes the search announced by the city for an overall concept that is intended to contribute to traffic calming, but at the same time calls for immediate measures that can be implemented quickly and easily.
“The fixed zebra crossing required by a residents’ initiative in place of the temporary protective path that is already in place would work safely with appropriate controls as a speed brake”, says the chairman of the SPÖ Innenstadt-Süd, Andrea Heimberger. On Thursday afternoon, the activists of the district organization are drawing attention to this initiative.
Several initiatives have already been formed
In the meantime, various initiatives have been formed by residents calling for traffic calming in the city center. “We welcome Mayor Klaus Luger’s announcement that a new transport solution will be established for Humboldtstrasse and the neighboring districts by means of an overall concept. We can also understand that comprehensive new traffic control measures will only be possible when all bridges currently under construction over the Danube have been completed, ”says the section chairman of the SPÖ Innenstadt-Süd, Andrea Heimberger.
“With the radar boxes that have also been announced and which can be implemented earlier, a very important request from the residents and a safe and effective measure will come as quickly as possible,” Heimberger continues.
Protective path as a possible speed brake
The inner city resident has little understanding why another sensible demand from the residents is not implemented by traffic officer Hein: “The currently provisional protective path near Schillerstraße could be converted into a fixed zebra crossing due to the construction site. Because while the orange temporary solution is unfortunately not noticed enough, the white stripes could function as an additional speed brake. Especially when the police check accordingly, ”Heimberger is convinced.
