Tesla has a tradition of not keeping the things its founder Elon Musk promises. Now, it seems, it is time for the commitment promised by the company to produce fully autonomous electric cars by the end of 2021.
“I am very confident that Tesla’s electric cars will be able to run with reliability beyond human control by the end of the year,” he said in January.
But it seems that this will be a futile promise, since earlier this week the company informed the state regulator in California that it will be able to produce only electric cars in autonomy level 2 (L2) and by the end of the year will not be able to move higher.
Level 2 means that some functions are semi-autonomous, but still require human supervision. Level 5 (L5), which Musk promised, means that the electric car will be capable of full self-driving without human supervision, regardless of the circumstances.
Currently, no vehicle in the world has an L5, as such is not even produced. Therefore, many analysts were initially skeptical that Tesla would be able to introduce such a technology, which would at least require extremely long tests to convince the public and regulators that it was reliable (especially in the context of constant incidents with Tesla’s Autopilot technology). ).
Despite Tesla’s inability to achieve the promised technology, the company has been selling electric cars and chimera stocks for Full Self Driving technology for years. Moreover, the company has secured part of its deposits on the basis of this promise. However, it seems to remain for a hypothetical moment in the future.
