Another blow against Tsanko Tsankov! They annulled his world record, recognized only days ago – 2024-10-06 08:21:15

A few days after it was officially recognized, Tsanko Tsankov’s world record for the longest continuous unassisted swim on the Danube River was canceled by the Association of World Records (OWR).

“After a detailed review of new evidence regarding the record and consultation with international authorities, we have taken the decision to cancel this world record. Our commitment to maintaining the transparency and integrity of the verification process is paramount. We take these matters very seriously to maintain the highest standards,” OWR said in a statement sent to Sportal colleagues.

We remind you that on September 6, Tsankov swam 108.6 kilometers, which was announced by his team as a new record, but it turned out to be wrong.

On the one hand, the International Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) accused Tsankov and his team of submitting “manipulated and incomplete data”, and separately it turned out that in 2021 the Romanian Bogdan Zurbagiu swam 115.8 kilometers.

This is how it came to September 19, when, despite WOWSA’s warnings not to make another attempt, Tsankov swam 120 kilometers along the Danube River.

In their material on the canceled record, WOWSA described it as a “PR stunt” intended to clean up the stain on the swimmer’s reputation left by the first swim.
