Donald Trump was close to a new attack against him, after a man in California was arrested on Saturday, October 12 in the town of Coachella, who was armed and intended to assassinate the former president.
The detained man is Vem Miller, and according to reports from the authorities, he was detained while trying to evade a security check using a false press badge, which they detected and proceeded to a search.
They realized that the registration of the car he had was false, in addition to the fact that inside there was a pistol and a shotgun, false passports and driver’s licenses that were not original either.
The local Sheriff said that they possibly prevented a third attack against Trump so far in his presidential campaign; However, the detained man was let out after paying bail for $5,000 following accusations of weapons possession.
The Federal Government of the United States does not consider that it was an assassination attempt, and according to The New York Postit is possible that the FBI is not investigating the incident.
It should be noted that the Secret Service said it will investigate the events, and that the incident “did not affect protection operations and that former President Trump was not in danger.”
Reports indicate that Vem Miller is a man who belongs to far-right anti-government groups, and it is possible that the weapons are in his possession only for personal defense. In addition, he already had a history of altercations with the police.
This would be the third assassination attempt on Donald Trump so far in the presidential campaign. The first occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman attacked from a house meters away and as a result a bullet hit the former president’s ear.
A couple of months later, a man was arrested in West Palm Beach, site of Donald Trump’s golf club. The detainee was carrying a gun and was 300 yards from Trump, which is why the incident is being investigated as an attempted murder.
