In Germany, 7,830 new infections with Covid-19 have been reported in the last 24 hours, the highest daily rate since the start of the pandemic, nearly 500 times the number announced on Friday, the Robert Koha Institute (RKI) said on Saturday.
The previous peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany reached the end of March, when an average of about 6,300 infected people were registered per day.
However, it is considered that there were in fact significantly more infections at that time, as the analytical capacity has increased significantly since then.
According to the RKI, a total of at least 356,387 people have been infected with Covid-19 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic.
There have also been 33 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, with a total of 9,767 victims.
