8065 Covid-19 examinations were performed last day, 686 new cases of infection were registered. Proportion of positive cases against those tested: 8.5%. Proportion of positive cases against those tested: 10.7%. Viral infections are considered to circulate uncontrollably in the community if the proportion of positive tests exceeds 4%.
7 persons died last day – 2 persons were in the age group from 70 to 80 years, two persons – in the age group from 80 to 90 years, three persons – from 90 to 100 years.
A total of 19993 persons became ill in Latvia and 1849 recovered.
CONTEXT:
During the Covid-19 outbreak in the spring, an emergency situation was declared in Latvia to control the new coronavirus. The situation was stable in the summer, but the morbidity at the end of September fast increased. The government re-established the state of emergency that existed stricter restrictions. Despite this, the incidence of Covid-19 did not stop increasing.
Government on 1 December decided to extend emergency by 11 January. Restrictions are as strict as in spring – the “2 + 2” principle must be followed. This means that only two people from different households can meet, within a distance of two meters.
