Another 30 fast-charging stations Fast-charging stations have also been launched

Doha: Kahrama (Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation) has completed the construction of 30 fast charging stations for electric vehicles in different parts of the country.

Kahrama Sustainable Transport Unit Head Mohammad Al Sharshani said the construction of 30 fast charging stations for electric cars was completed by the first half of 2021 and the goal is to increase the number of charging stations from 600 to 1000 by 2025. Mohammad Al Sharshani said in an interview with Qatar TV that it will not take more than an hour to charge a car through the fast charging station.

There are two types of electric car charging stations in the country. Residential areas have AC stations for private vehicle owners. It takes six to seven hours to load a vehicle here.

Another are the DC fast charging stations set up by Kahrama. Al Sarshani explained that the time required for charging in DC stations is only 30-40 minutes depending on the type of vehicle and the backup battery and the level of charge.

The charging stations are built in collaboration with the Steering Committee of the National Strategy for charging stations for electric and hybrid vehicles. He stated that the steering committee is made up of members of the Ministry of Transport, the General Directorate of Traffic, the Public Works Authority Ashgal, Kahrama etc. and the committee aims to create infrastructure and formulate policies to promote electric vehicles. Kahrama launched an electric service in April this year to allow customers to submit applications to install electric vehicle charging stations at their locations.
