Later relocated persons will receive benefits for settlement and basic needs, assistance in the education of children and learning the Lithuanian language, assistance in job search and more.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the raging political and economic crisis in Venezuela is encouraging people to flee the country.
Currently, the Lithuanian Embassy in Madrid is in contact with about 100 other people who have the status of a resettled person and are looking to move to Lithuania.
It is stated that another transfer flight is planned for this year.
The Lithuanian community in Venezuela unites about 400 people of Lithuanian origin. It is estimated that about 1,000 Lithuanian citizens and persons of Lithuanian origin live in Venezuela.
The possibility for the crisis-stricken Venezuelan Lithuanians to move to Lithuania was approved in September 2019.
The resettlement program is implemented in accordance with the law adopted in 2019, which allows to reimburse relocation costs and provide other state support to Lithuanians living in crisis-stricken countries.
