JAKARTA Anosmia is one of the symptoms that people often complain about. Anosmia is a condition in which a person loses his sense of smell completely so he cannot smell the aromas around him.

Problems with the sense of smell are certainly very disturbing, one of which is making Covid-19 patient to lose his appetite.

ENT, Head and Neck Surgeon, dr. Hemastia Manuhara explained that anosmia can be cured together with Covid-19 therapy given to someone.

However, especially for anosmia, nose washes are usually given, using physiological fluids, NaCl solution, or nasal saline to clean.

“In addition, vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc can also be given. In addition, patients must also do olfactory exercises to stimulate their olfactory system. Because with a disturbed sense of smell, food will taste bland so that patients lose their appetite and take longer to recover,” said dr. Hemastia, in the Instagram Series Okezone and Sindonews, Friday (30/7).

Doctor Hemastia explained that there are several objects that can be used as a means of olfactory training that are easily found at home. Some of them are coffee, lime, cloves, or scented roses. Can also smell perfume or other fragrances that have a pungent aroma.

“Anyway, the pungent aroma can be used for exercise at least 2-3 times a day. Recent research says anosmia in Covid-19 can disappear after 14-28 days after exposure. But this is under normal conditions, such as comorbidities, and therapy is fast and appropriate. But there are also those who have had therapy but their anosmia has not returned, so 30% of them still have anosmia behind,” he explained.
