“Añora Crosses Festival: a Unique Cultural Event with Traditional Music and Art Exhibitions”

The chronology of the Fiesta de la Cruz de Añora is very simple and is designed to be enjoyed both at night and during the day. In this way, apart from tonight’s Spring Festival, during Saturday you can take the opportunity to walk around the town and live the party next to the crosses while they dress the exterior monuments, which are the granite crosses that are distributed by the municipality. Already in the afternoon all the crosses are opened, a secret kept precisely until this moment.

Throughout the night and early morning you can enjoy Musical performances through the streets, tastings of traditional pastry and chocolate. The Nuestra Señora de la Peña Choir will perform through the streets, dressed in typical costumes; a group of minstrels and troubadours ‘La juglaresca’; the Romero y Encinar de Pedroche choir and the tuna from the Law School of Córdoba. The Da Vinci Orchestra will entertain the dance of the Velá in the Plaza de España. During the early hours of Saturday to Sunday, the jury’s decision will be known, which will give way to the big day of the Fiesta de la Cruz. However, it is expected that on Monday, which is a holiday in Añora, the crosses can also be admired. Next to the Crosses you can visit photography and painting exhibitions and on Sunday the speed painting contest will also be held.

The mayor of Añora, Bartolomé Madrid, has reiterated that “they are unique crosses in Spain due to their iconography and the endless number of materials that are used, that are recycled, that are adapted with all the mystery during months of quiet work”. The budget of the Fiesta reaches 60.000 euros, of which two thirds are destined directly to the elaboration of these peculiar monuments and the rest is for parallel activities.
