The Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the greatest holidays for Christians of the Eastern rite. Previously, it was celebrated on April 7. But since from September 1, 2023, the OCU switched to the New Julian calendar, the date of the celebration of the Annunciation has changed. Now it is celebrated earlier – on March 25.

The meaning of the holiday
This holiday is not only religious, but also folk. That is why many traditions, signs and prohibitions are associated with it, which our ancestors tried to follow. Many have survived to this day in people’s memory.
The word “annunciation” itself means “good” or “good” news. On this holiday, believers remember the events when Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary, informing her that she would soon become the mother of Jesus Christ.
This name for the holiday appeared only in the 7th century. Before this, it was called “the Conception of Christ”, “Annunciation of Christ”, “Confession”, etc.
