JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – A ring solar eclipse will visit a number of areas on Earth. People in North America, Central America, South America and parts of the United States can witness this phenomenon.
Research Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Thomas Djamaluddin said that an annular solar eclipse cannot be witnessed in Indonesia.
“Annular solar eclipse on the American continent on October 14 2023,” said Thomas, Thursday (5/10/2023).
Even though Indonesians cannot witness this celestial phenomenon, it is important to know what an annular solar eclipse is.

What is an annular solar eclipse?
Launch Space.coma ring solar eclipse is a celestial phenomenon that occurs when the new Moon is directly between the Earth and the Sun so that the Moon’s shadow falls on the Earth.
In contrast to a total solar eclipse, where the Moon is able to cover the entire disk of the Sun, in a ring solar eclipse, the Moon will appear smaller than the Sun so it does not cover the entire disk of the Sun.
This is what causes the thin outer ring. It’s no wonder we call it an annular solar eclipse. In English, this phenomenon is known as “ring of fire”.
One of the causes of a total solar eclipse and an annular solar eclipse is because the Moon’s orbit around the Earth is elliptical, not a full circle.
As a result, there are times when the Moon is so far from the Earth that it makes the Moon appear slightly smaller, and vice versa.
