The Painting Symposium annually gathers followers and admirers of the artist Mark Rothko’s work in Daugavpils, who through their unique artistic vision continue to embody the ideas expressed by Mark Rothko in their works. The artists live outside their usual environment for two weeks: they interact, get inspired and create unique works to be presented to the audience for evaluation in a joint exhibition and then in the collection of the Rothko Center, reports the Marka Ritko Center.
Artists from all over the world come to the symposium. This time, the selection jury has chosen nine artists: Sue Beyer, Australia; Kevork George Kassabian, Armenia; Ruth Philo, Great Britain; Zbigniew Olszyna, Poland; Ann Tarantino (Ann Tarantino), USA/Italy; Ritumu Ivanovu (Latvia); Kristu Autio (Belgium); Agata Borowa, Poland; Ingunu Liepa (Latvia).
The program of the symposium will take place on the occasion of Rothko’s 120th anniversary. In honor of the artist’s memory, a painting symposium will take place in September, as well as other events related to Rothko’s name or expressed ideas.
Two days, September 21 and 22, at At 15.00 at the Rothko Center, everyone will be able to follow the presentations of the symposium participants. The symposium will end on September 29 at 16.00 in the Rothko Center with the opening of the exhibition of newly created works.
