Annual Meetings of the IDB Group: Jeddah’s rendezvous

«Partnership: an imperative in the face of crises”, it is under this theme that the Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group will be held from May 10 to 13, 2023 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The event is under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The theme of the 2023 edition is an invitation to member countries to grasp the importance of collaboration to meet the challenges they face.

On this occasion, high-level plenary sessions, interactive round tables, technical sessions and side events covering a wide range of topics are planned. It will, among other things, be about poverty reduction, infrastructure development, health, education, food security, climate change and innovation. “The Annual Meetings will serve as a platform for member countries to showcase their development projects and initiatives, to foster partnerships for significant results.”

The Annual Meetings also provide opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing and engagement with world leaders and experts in the field of development. A dedicated exhibition space, presenting the Group’s innovative projects and initiatives, as well as the achievements and successes of its member countries is planned. These meetings “will serve as a framework conducive to dialogue and collaboration, with the aim of identifying concrete solutions to promote inclusive and sustainable development in the member countries of the IDB”, according to a press release from the communication department of the Bank Group. This year, the IDB Group expects the participation of various stakeholders, such as ministers from the 57 member countries, senior officials, heads of international organizations, representatives of the private sector, civil society, academia and medias….

Burkina Faso has been a member of the IDB since 1978. As such, it sits on the Board of Governors, through the Minister of Economy, Finance and Prospective, as well as the Director General of Cooperation. To date, the country has benefited from 199 projects, 129 of which have been fully implemented for a financing volume estimated at 3.8 billion dollars.

This forum will also be an opportunity to showcase GBID’s activities, projects, services and initiatives in its member countries, highlighting the organization’s role in promoting PPP projects and its services to the private sector. This event will also provide a meeting between potential investors interested in investing in Saudi Arabia and a platform to promote the vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2030.o
