The weather forecast looks better on Monday for the annual Burning Man Festival in the Nevada desert. After heavy rainfall, the festival site turned into a large mud pool last weekend, leaving tens of thousands of festival-goers stranded.
From Friday evening, the festival had to deal with heavy rain. The showers lasted all weekend and on Sunday it rained for two hours. The low-pressure system that caused the stormy conditions left the region on Sunday evening. Monday will remain dry and the sun will shine brightly. The temperature also rises from just 13 degrees to over 23 degrees.
Tens of thousands of visitors were trapped on the festival site due to the storm. They had to stay in their tents and frugal with food and water. One person was killed, the cause of death is still unclear.
Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert attracts around 70,000 visitors from all over the world each year. Many events at the festival – known for dance parties, art installations and other entertainment – had to be canceled due to rain. The traditional closing of ceremonially burning a twelve-meter-tall doll has been moved from Sunday evening to Monday evening at 9 p.m. local time.
