Annual award in culture “White Sparrow” presented in Riga The news

Riga, May 21, LETA. The Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Riga City Council (ICSD) has presented the annual award in culture “Baltais zvirbulis”, thanks to the work and creative contribution of people in the cultural sector, the representative of the department Indra Vilde informed LETA.

She pointed out that for the second year in a row, the awards are presented remotely and this is recorded in a video material, which will give the audience the opportunity to get acquainted with last year’s cultural events and personalities. The video will be available on the ICSD website and social network accounts from 31 May.

ICSD Director Māris Krastiņš emphasized that this award is an opportunity to thank and pay tribute to those professionals in the field of culture who were able to work selflessly in this field during the pandemic, look for new, unusual forms and at the same time surprise viewers, listeners, readers implemented projects, innovative events and traditional searches.

Two laureates receive the award in the nomination “For long-term and significant professional contribution” – Ilona Orleja, project coordinator of VEF Culture Palace for long-term professional contribution to VEF Culture Palace amateur art groups and Ingrida Reinholde, head of in the field of pedagogy.

Kārlis Anitens, Deputy Director for Artistic Issues of the Riga Municipal Association of Cultural Institutions “Ziemeļblāzma” for innovative and creative solutions in the implementation of cultural projects in Riga municipal cultural institutions in 2020 – during the pandemic, receives the award in the nomination “Employee of Riga City Municipality Culture and Cultural Education Institution”.

“Balto zvirbuli” is awarded to Aiga Balode, Chief Expert of the Library Service of the Riga Central Library, for significant contribution to the improvement and development of virtual services of the Riga Central Library, and Artūrs Cingujevs, Director of Bolderāja Music and Art School .

In the nomination “Leader of the Amateur Art Ensemble”, the award is presented to the artistic director of the youth choir “Kamēr…” of the Riga Municipal Association of Cultural Institutions “Ave Sol” for artistically high-quality creativity and creative success

“Baltais zvirbulis” in the nomination “Cooperation project and cooperation in reflecting the cultural process” has traveled to several laureates. The artist Lota Vilma Vītiņa was awarded the prize for her creative contribution and cooperation in the implementation of Riga’s urban projects – the walking-game “Old Riga Expert”, the large-format comic “Imanta’s Wake” and the city’s Christmas visual identity.

Artūrs Virtmanis and Daniela Vētra, artists in tandem, receive the award for the successful and innovative implementation of the project – performance “Against the Tragic Wall” or “Against the Tragic Wall” in the exhibition hall “Riga Art Space”. In this nomination, the prize was also awarded to the Director of the Latvian National Archives Māra Sprūdža for an ambitious and culturally significant exhibition project – Latvia’s centenary exhibition “There is Latvia. Latvia is free” and Andrejs Holcmanis’ 100th anniversary exhibition “Tower” in Riga St. Peter’s Church. Illusionists Dace and Enrico Pecolli receive the award for their contribution and courage in the implementation of a project that promotes cultural diversity – the creation and opening of the illusionist theater and museum “Mystero” in 2020.

The “White Sparrow” award was created by artist Aigars Bikše and has been presented since 2004 to express appreciation and reward the cultural workers and cooperation partners of Riga Municipality for ensuring a quality cultural process in Riga.
