At the end of the summer, from 25 to 28 August, jazz music will be played again in Lūznava manor of Rēzekne region – for the third time the Baltic Jazz Festival “Škiuņa Jazz” is planned, marking it as a stable tradition in the annual calendar of Latgale cultural events. Although the restrictions due to the pandemic introduce some changes in the festival this year, its organizing team has prepared a diverse program with the participation of Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian, US and French musicians, hoping that at the end of the summer there will be an opportunity to experience all events.

On August 25, the festival will be opened by Latgale’s young jazz musicians, who have grown up with the festival – Trio Lipskis / Justs / Arbidāns. At the end of last year, the association’s debut mini-album “Taids jazz” was released, but this spring the composition “Oki, nalej, leiteņ” was included in the selection “Jazz in Latvia 2021”. On August 27, the festival will host the David Chevallier Trio from France with a French folk jazz program, modern and academic jazz will merge with the Lithuanian Kęstutis Vaiginis Quartet, and The Ciel Experience from the USA will intertwine in the harmony and improvisation of American jazz traditions. , hip-hop and traditional Haitian music styles. On Saturday, August 28, the day’s program will feature the performances of the festival’s master classes, but in the evening, presenting the program of the album “Each has its own folk song” released in March this year, Laura Amantov’s quartet and Rūta Dūduma-Ķirse’s joint project, Estonian and Armenian musicians’ association Shabat Quartet ”, whose repertoire includes Armenian and Jewish folk music arrangements in addition to the original works.

The closing program of the festival will traditionally be taken care of by the Rēzekne Big Band, which will be joined by the festival’s masters – jazz singer Vita Rusaityte (Lithuania), percussionist Artis Orubs, saxophonist Kęstutis Vaiginis (Lithuania), jazz guitarist Jaan Janson (Estonia) An integral part of the festival will also be the jam sessions of the evening festival, in which both the participants of the master classes and the lecturers play music together.

The organizers said that the aim of the festival has remained the same – to promote interest in jazz music, to encourage future and existing jazz musicians to cooperate, as well as to continue to experience the joy of jazz music in Latgale, therefore until June 25 jazz music students – music school and university students, other jazz enthusiasts are invited to apply for the festival’s master classes, where they will be able to improve their professional experience with teachers from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and this year “The Ciel Experience” musicians from the USA – double bass, jazz guitar, bass guitar, saxophone and other wind instruments and keyboards. vocal.
