This was confirmed by Raymond Skorstad, who is responsible for organizing the national electricity protests, to the Nation.
The protests over record high electricity prices in southern Norway have their roots in the Facebook group “We who demand cheaper electricity”, which has grown to over 100,000 members.
Asks the Storting to reject the government’s power grip
The electricity demonstrators have applied to hold an event at Eidsvolls plass on Saturday 27 November, in front of the Storting, in protest against the government’s electricity policy. They will go by train from Jernbanetorget to the Storting, where the protests will start.
«Many thousands of people in Norway are cursed at the increased electricity prices in Norway and the government’s petty cuts presented in the budget proposal for 2022. We demand that the Storting rejects the government’s proposal for electricity budget and adopts large cuts in electricity prices including taxes and VAT so that the price will be leveling for ordinary people “, writes demonstration manager Skorstad in a press release.
Participants in the power protests are asked to bring family and friends, yellow vests and torches.
It has not been confirmed in which other Norwegian cities electricity protests will be held yet, but Skorstad warns that such a clarification will come next week.
Experience from property tax protests
Skorstad, which has the national responsibility for the electricity protests, has experience from organizing protests against property taxes in Arendal in January. He is deputy for Frp to the municipal council in Arendal and study leader in Arendal Frp.
