Tenth in the world and third of its kind in North America after those of Atlanta and Los Angeles, the future PEC Toronto will be located on a 20-acre site in the “Durham Live” development in Pickering, Ontario, which includes for l ‘instant a casino and will include a concert hall, over 400,000 square feet of retail space and a luxury hotel with over 300 rooms. The Porsche Toronto Experience Center is scheduled to open by 2024.
“Porsche doesn’t just build cars. Porsche also embodies exclusivity and the promise of a unique experience; since the opening of the first Center at Silverstone in 2008, our Porsche Experience Centers have been delivering on this promise with flying colors, ”says Detlev von Platen, Member of the Management Board, Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. “Nowhere else in the automotive industry is it possible to experience the very essence of our cars in this way. I am very pleased to be able to announce that the 10th Center of its kind will be erected in Toronto, the fastest growing city in North America and home to an ever-growing community of Porsche enthusiasts. “Canadians will no longer have to leave the country to visit a Porsche Experience Center,” said Marc Ouayoun, President and CEO of Porsche Automobiles Canada, Ltée.
“Customers and brand enthusiasts will be able to enjoy enriching and practical experiences within the Greater Toronto Area. Nearly 100 million people live within a radius of 500 km and less than an hour’s flight. “
The first “urban” version of the global concept, the PEC Toronto will be a brand park and a major tourist destination where visitors can experience vehicle dynamics, on-board technologies and the emotions they arouse under the guidance of Porsche instructors and as part of various driving modules. Open year-round, the PEC will be within a 30-minute drive of downtown Toronto. This national and international tourist destination will feature a driving circuit of over 2 kilometers designed by the firm Tilke Engineering to showcase the technological prowess of our two and four-door sports cars, on the ideal playground. This is how customers and enthusiasts of the brand, owners or not, will be able to live the Porsche experience.
Visitors to PEC Toronto will also be able to admire the collection of current and historic cars, take a coffee break and browse the Porsche store. “To enhance the experience, Porsche enthusiasts who visit the PEC will also be able to enjoy the attractions of the Durham Live entertainment district, where games, culture, nightlife, gastronomy and adventure come together,” said Steve Apostolopoulos, Managing Partner and President of Pickering Developments, owners of Durham Live.
Spotlight on sustainable development
In line with Porsche’s global commitment to decarbonise the entire value chain of its vehicles, the Experience Center is expected to include a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, thereby expanding the Destination Recharge Porsche program. In addition, great importance is attached to respecting the environment in the design, construction and operation of the PEC.
The global design, architecture, engineering and planning company HOK designs the building and incorporates innovative technologies focused on sustainability. The company is recognized for major projects, such as Terminal B at La Guardia Airport in 2021, the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, as well as the head office of Porsche Cars North America in Atlanta, Georgia.
Completely unique in the automotive industry, the Porsche Experience Centers provide Porsche enthusiasts and customers with exciting experiences, both with the sports car brand and with its products. PECs can be found in Leipzig, Silverstone, Atlanta, Le Mans, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Hockenheimring, Germany, Franciacorta, Italy and, since October 2021, Tokyo.
