MILANO – The project reaches its 25th anniversary Community Foundations Of Cariplo Foundationimported from the United States in 1999, the largest project carried out by the philanthropic organization in via Manin which has seen it receive funding of 540 million euros over the years.
The assets are 288 million euros. Thanks to these funds and the commitment of all the territories involved in this project the 16 Community Foundations over time they have achieved a capitalization of 288 million euros, which has allowed these entities to support social projects in the area for approximately 35 million euros (2022 data).
A unique network that reaches everywhere. «Community Foundations have reached a stage of maturity, just like a person, at 25 years old. They have significant assets and are now recognized interlocutors. – explains Giovanni Azzone, president of Cariplo Foundation – We rely on them, aware that we can count on a unique network that reaches even the most remote places, in a logic of listening and responding to the needs, even of those who live in those villages where there often seems to be little or nothing, and which instead have treasures of great value: the strength of relationships that moves the world and makes things happen”.
The Community Foundations. These particular realities represent the Italian declination of Community Foundation born in North America at the beginning of the 20th century, but are part of the long history of attention to social issues typical of our country: independent and autonomous bodies, capable of making the foundation’s support for the realities more widespread non profit less structured, which very often have difficulty in intercepting financing.
The role of local entities. The ones to remedy this are precisely these institutions that are born in the area, the newly formed Foundation that manages to collect donations in the area for at least 5 million euros can obtain from Cariplo Foundation the doubling of the initial quota or another 10 million euros through a challenging mechanism. There are 16 Community Foundations active in the Lombardy area and in the provinces of Novara and Verbano Cusio Ossola, one for each province, with the exception of the Milan Metropolitan Area in which three Community Foundations operate. The first two to be born will turn 25 in 2024: the Community Foundation of Lecco and the Provincial Foundation of the Comasca Community.
The needs of local communities. «The objective of all these local philanthropic bodies is to address the needs of local communities by promoting the culture of giving and the participation of citizens, non-profit bodies, public bodies and private companies. – they explain from the Cariplo Foundation – They perform a “philanthropic mediator” function: they collect resources such as donations, disbursements and bequests. Furthermore, they stimulate and collect projects of general interest through tenders, work groups, co-planning and disburse through tenders, non-tender projects, philanthropic funds, then evaluating the effect of the supported activities”.
The project. And among the hundreds of projects carried out by Community Foundations, that of the Monza Brianza Community Foundation certainly stands out with a history of social inclusion in workplaces with a singular name “TikiTaka”: thanks to the collaboration of over 100 local companies, 203 internships aimed at social inclusion in the working environment were started in 2023 alone: they led to the hiring of 13 people with disabilities mainly in the catering and trade sectors.
Each person expresses their own value. «Looking at the last five years, there have been more than 30 hires with a net increase in the last two years. – explain the Foundation – These data speak of an ever-increasing diffusion of a work culture that allows each person to express their own value: an aspect on which the Network TikiTaka has been working since its origins.”
