Anniversary medal for the oldest swimming club in Europe

A beautiful day today for Royal Amsterdam Swimming Club 1870. The oldest swimming club in Europe received the Jubilee Medal from Alderman Simone Kukenheim.

Last Thursday it was 150 years ago that the swimming club from Zuidoost was founded. The club, which runs entirely on volunteers, was important, among other things, in the introduction of school swimming in the Netherlands. In honor of the centenary, the club received the designation ‘Royal’ in 1970.

The Jubilee Medal is for companies, institutions, foundations and associations that have been active since the
have been established in Amsterdam for fifty years (or in a multiple of ten years above that)
to exist.
