Anniversary in Neunkirchen – day clinic, which gives a lot of courage, celebrates its 20th birthday

On May 12th, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Psychiatric Day Clinic, a festive ceremony took place with words of welcome from Board Member Konrad Kogler. “Back then, the day clinic was the first department in all of Lower Austria and the thermal region to open its operations outside of the hospital. The holistic treatment approach, the excellent exercise program and the high level of patient satisfaction characterize the day clinic in Neunkirchen. I am very pleased that we can celebrate 20 successful years together today.”

The Neunkirchen Day Clinic is part of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapeutic Medicine at the Neunkirchen State Clinic. Christian Wunsch has been in charge since 2018. The psychiatric day clinic with 15 therapy places enables patients with mental illnesses and psychosocial crises to receive optimal care while remaining in their familiar surroundings. The day clinic is thus a link between inpatient and outpatient services.

“The multi-professional team agrees individual treatment goals together with the patient and supports the stabilization and implementation with drug and non-drug therapy methods. Particular attention is paid to the promotion of strengths and skills,” says Christian Wunsch.

To date, around 4,100 day clinic admissions have taken place. 65 percent of the patients therefore do not need an in-patient stay in the clinic, 35 percent use the day clinic after in-patient therapy.

As part of the anniversary celebration, Christian Wunsch gave a keynote speech entitled “20 Years of Day Clinic Neunkirchen”. The exhibition designed by occupational therapy with works of art by patients that were created as part of their therapy was enthusiastically received.
