“The story is about a lonely, lost soul that has stopped at the crossroads of life and cannot find the strength and courage to move on,” says singer and vocal teacher Annija Putniņa. She released her first single in English, «You are not alone», for which a video was also filmed.
The song, the music of which is by Rihards Zaļupe, but the lyrics of which were created by Annie, invites us to remember that we will never be alone in this world, because above us there is the universe, stars and light that will show us the right way.
“This song is not a classic radio format, it is something that has never existed and will definitely take the listener to another dimension,” says Annija Putniņa. She thinks that it is winter and the time around the winter solstice, when we stop a little and look at ourselves, that is very important in the lives of many people, because it raises and forces us to answer the “big questions” of life.
“Someone stops at this time for a moment, but for someone else it turns out to be more severe, even depressive. Because perhaps he has been betrayed, abandoned, apparently left alone at the crossroads of his life, where there is darkness all around… There are many such people in my circle of acquaintances,» says the singer, once again emphasizing that she wants to remind with this song that we cannot in this world to be alone. Because there is God and there is hope. “I myself, for example, talk a lot with the stars. I live outside Riga, where there is not so much light, so you can see the stars well. And I’m also interested in what’s happening in the sky…” says Annija Putniņa, revealing that the song “You are not alone” came to her on a dark autumn evening on Saulkrasti beach.
On the other hand, the video clip of the song was filmed in the Puikule manor in Limbažu county, and Daile Theater actor Lauris Dzelzītis also participates in it. The two are linked by a long-standing acquaintance, they once played together in the children’s Christmas play “Kraukščitis”. Annie says that during the filming it was very cold in some rooms and attics of the manor – the temperature even reached minus 10 degrees in the winter night shots. “It was a new and very interesting experience for me. I have always wanted to film a video in winter conditions. Now I admire the actors and the creative team even more, who work on the set for many hours in harsh weather – it’s not easy at all!”
A year ago, the singer took part in the music track created by Rihardas Zaļupes for the animated film “The Mystery of the Lost Socks”, which was made in cooperation with Estonian colleagues and this year was nominated for the “Hollywood Music in Media Awards”. Thus, Annie’s sonorous voice has also been heard in Hollywood, moreover – singing in Estonian.
