“This is a picture that describes me. Surrender to challenges, adventures and unexpected turns in life,” says singer Annija Putniņa, talking about her chosen favorite photo, which was taken seven years ago in Antarctica.
“After studying musical theater in London, at the Royal Academy of Music, I had planned to stay there, but an interesting and unexpected offer came to perform on special cruise ships that go on expeditions to Antarctica. The decision had to be made rather quickly. The cruise organizers contacted me via e-mail on Christmas Eve, when my family and I were having dinner at home in Latvia. The offer seemed so exciting that I immediately made a decision – yes, I will do it! – and told my parents, who were in a negative mood and did not want me to sail to the distant Antarctica. However, I promised my mother that everything will be fine and that I want to meet the penguins.”
So, on her birthday, the singer set foot on the glaciers of Antarctica and met penguins. “By the way, a very small percentage of the world’s population have been there. I’m glad I didn’t get scared and fulfilled a traveler’s dream!” Annie adds more.
