Annie Villeneuve affirms that she did not hesitate to say yes with enthusiasm when she was contacted to become the spokesperson for the 32nd edition of the Festival de la chanson de Saint-Ambroise, from August 7 to 12. For the singer from the region, this will be an opportunity to give back to the festival since she has already participated in the competition in her debut.
“It will be like a homecoming for me. I started in the region and I did the competition. It was the biggest in my eyes. I was 13 or 14 years old and I thought the stage was huge. Sylvain Cossette was the sponsor and I was very impressed. I feel blessed to have been chosen this year and I will do so with great pride. I will be the godmother of young people with pleasure and humility too. »
The singer, who notably made a name for herself during the first edition of the Star Académie program and during her time with the Quebec Issime troupe, is eager to meet the young participants in the Saint-Ambroise competition.
“We will be able to chat. I will ask them questions, answer theirs and tell them a bit about my journey. What I’m going to tell them is that whatever their vision, their desire, their way of doing things and their colors, there is no path drawn in advance. They will go their own way, that’s all. This is all the more true today with social networks and the internet. There are no more borders. What you love to do, do it and go for it! »
Despite the difficulties they may encounter during a career in the music industry, she also intends to encourage them to persevere.
“It’s up and down. I like the image of the wave, me. Sometimes you’re on top, other times you’re not. There is no harm in readjusting the shot, reviewing your ambitions as your career progresses. »
Understand the industry
Their most important message, according to them, will be to fully understand how the structure of the music industry in which they will evolve works.
“The profession is not just about singing, dreaming and persevering. Eventually, there will be a record label, copyrights, etc. You have to have a minimum of knowledge, be a bit of an entrepreneur. You can’t just have your head in the clouds and be driven by passion. You also have to be down to earth. We do show business and business takes up more space than the show. »
Annie Villeneuve points out that she returned to school herself a few years ago to complete a certificate in management from the École des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Montreal.
“Knowing how to surround yourself well is not giving to everyone. You have to be able to trust, but not blindly. You have to do this job happily, without being fooled. »
