They must be about the oldest ‘soap couple’ in the world: Annie Geeraerts and Ray Verhaeghe (both 94) from ‘Familie’. But nothing is for eternity, as it appears that their characters Albert and Anna are getting a divorce. To the surprise of the two actors: “And to think that we gave the impetus for this plot ourselves …”, they say in Dag Allemaal.

They had been “married” for 27 years, but in last Friday’s episode, Albert announced that he had engaged a lawyer. “When we first heard what the writers were up to with us, I had to swallow”, says Ray Verhaeghe in Dag Allemaal. “Albert who wants a divorce? What an idea! No, I really did not expect this. ”
“At first I even had to laugh because I didn’t believe it,” said Annie Geeraerts. “And to think that we ourselves gave the impetus.”

“Like all actors, Annie and I regularly have a conversation with the writers about the storylines,” said Verhaeghe. “Last time, we suggested that it might be time to polish up Anna and Albert’s relationship. In our opinion, it was no longer true that the Bomma remained so gruff and angry, while Albert continued to follow her like a lap dog. In our environment we see that those who get older often become milder. The authors promised to take our suggestion into account. But we were somewhat shocked by this solution. ”
