This year, the TV campaign goes to Plan’s work to fight child marriage. Under the action name “Children, not brides”, Plan wants to reach three million people to end child marriage.
– I needed zero reflection time to say yes to being the host of the TV campaign. This year’s theme is incredibly painful and important, he says Anne Rimmen in a message from NRK.
Rimmen is back in NRK to take part in the TV campaign, which is considered the world’s largest fundraising campaign. That so many are participating in the TV campaign does Robert Stoltenberg respectful:
– It feels like a privilege, you feel that you are involved in something important. I am really happy and proud that volunteering and the joy of giving have such a strong place in our society, he says. Now the planning of the broadcast is in full swing, and the presenters learn a lot about the reasons for child marriage and what measures can prevent it from happening.
Third in the host trio, Christian Strand, remembers back to a reportage trip he made in Niger a few years ago. Niger is one of the countries Plan will work against child marriage in.
– Poverty is extreme, and parents are really pressured to the extreme. It is not so surprising that child marriage is experienced as a way out for some of them, says Strand.
NRK writes that with the income from this year’s TV campaign, Plan will strengthen, protect and educate girls to prevent them from getting married as children. They believe this is especially important at a time when the corona crisis has further weakened girls’ rights. The projects will be in the countries where child marriage is most prevalent: in Bangladesh, Nepal, Niger, Malawi and Mali.
Action leader Vibecke Østby says that she crosses her fingers for this year’s TV campaign will not be fully digital, as it was last year.
– We notice that many have missed going on this year’s most important Sunday trip. Now we hope we can finally meet again! With the gun in hand, we can invite neighbors to make a contribution either with cash or tips, at the same time as we inform about this year’s important issue, says Østby.
