Anne Kat. Military terrain (50) has been a well-known and beloved figure in the Norwegian media landscape for several years.
The 50-year-old is perhaps best known to many for the NRK hit ‘Nytt på Nytt’, and is currently current with the podcast ‘Anne-Kat in the 90s».
He was arrested at gunpoint
Accompanied by Jonas Jørstad (50), editor for the celebrity desk of Se og Hør and Dagbladet, the duo take listeners on a journey through time through the 1990s, where this week they reached the last year of the decade, 1999 .
In the episode, Hærland tells how both she and “Nytt på Nytt” were slaughtered by Dagbladet.
– Completely crushed
On April 9, 1999, the NRK program was broadcast on Norwegian screens for the first time. Prior to the programme, she was very nervous about being on NRK 1 in prime time on Friday night.
– I was afraid I wasn’t good enough for this, that everyone would be disappointed and I’d get fired, she admits on the podcast.
The day after the comedy program had its first broadcast, editors eagerly awaited the newspaper reviews.
– Then Guri Skavlan (project lead, reporter’s note) picks up and calls Dagbladet. “Hi, I’m Guri Skavlan, project manager at Nytt på Nytt. We were wondering if you could send us your review.” And then Dagbladet replies, “Are you absolutely sure you want that review now?”
The review, titled “Stomach Splash,” was faxed to the editors and is being read on the podcast.
– A terrible year
It became clear that the reviewer was not impressed, and like Jon Almaas (55) and Knut Nærum (61), Hærland was not spared the harsh judgment of journalist Håkon Moslet.
«For Anne-Kat Hærland, the star of the show, her time as a talented television woman must be declared over. She is only very rarely funny and to the point, and getting serious, it’s been a long time since anyone felt direct happiness from seeing her on screen».
While he may laugh about it today, the television profile describes the situation at the time as cruel.
– Everyone was like ‘fuck it, we have faith in it and we will continue with it’, but I was still completely devastated to have one of the biggest newspapers in the country write that I was completely talentless, recalls Hærland, who adds that ‘he cried all day down to a working party in Majorstua”.
– Very wrong
When Moslet was confronted with the Dagbladet massacre in 2015, the former reviewer admitted he pulled the trigger too quickly.
– I am responsible for the review, which has now become almost as famous as the program itself. But clearly I was dead wrong. As a reviewer you get a bit stubborn, it took at least six months for me to change my mind, I was probably a bit hard in the face then, he explained at the time, adding:
– It hurts a little more
– Now I’d give a clear six.
