Anna Seim, professor of economics at Stockholm University, will be the new deputy governor of the Riksbank. She replaces Martin Flodén in the post.

The Riksbank General Council decided on 15 March to appoint Anna Seim as the new Deputy Governor of the Riksbank after Martin Flodén, who ends his term of office in May 2024. Anna Seim’s first monetary policy meeting will be on 26 June.
Anna Seim is professor of economics and deputy head of department at the Department of Economics, Stockholm University. She is also director of the Center for Monetary Policy and Financial Stability (CeMoF) at the university.
Anna Seim researches how monetary and fiscal policy affects wage formation, exchange rates and the relationship between political institutions and long-term growth. She also teaches macroeconomics at the Department of National Economics.
In addition to her research and teaching, Anna Seim has several external assignments, including as a member of the Finansinspektionen’s board, the Fiscal Policy Council and the National Debt Office’s scientific council.
Anna Seim has a solid academic career and deep insights into how central banks affect the economy.
Regarding the decision, the chairman of the Riksbank council Bo Broman and vice chairman Tomas Eneroth say: “We are very happy to be able to present a new highly qualified member to the Riksbank’s executive board. Anna Seim has a solid academic career and deep insights into how central banks affect the economy. She will complement the other members well and we are also pleased that the decision was unanimous.”
The Department of Economics has more professors in the Riksbank’s management. Martin Flodén, who Anna Seim now replaces, is currently on leave. Karolina Ekholm, who was deputy head of the Riksbank 2009–2014, will be head of the National Debt Office from 2022.
