Kaitlin Armstrong was arrested shortly after the murder, but was released because the police had made a formal error when they issued a warrant for her arrest.
Shortly after, Armstrong sank to the ground, and was arrested after 43 days on the run in June 2022. She was arrested at a hostel in San Jose in Costa Rica.
Armstrong pleaded not guilty.

In 2022, the murder shook the cycling community in the United States. Wilson, a professional cyclist, was in Austin for a bike race. Three days before the race, she was found murdered at a friend’s house.
She was bleeding from a series of gunshot wounds and there were empty shell casings around her, according to police documents, reproduced by media outlets that The Guardian and New York Times. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Short-term romantic relationship
According to the Associated Press Wilson is said to have had a short-lived romantic relationship with professional cyclist Colin Strickland. He was not a suspect in the case.
The relationship between the two is said to have developed after Strickland broke up with Armstrong.
However, the relationship between Wilson and Strickland ended when Strickland chose to return to Armstrong.
According to the US Marshals Service, Wilson and Armstrong were together the night the former was killed. The police are said to have also observed a black SUV near the crime scene. They claim the car belongs to the 35-year-old.
