ANMP says that the Government must have a conversation and a humble attitude

“You must have a conversational, humble attitude and know how to negotiate in the situation you are in, which is a government based on a parliamentary minority”, said ANMP president, Luísa Salgueiro, in an interview with the Lusa group regarding the State Budget Negotiation.

To president from National Association of Portuguese Cities (ANMP) believes today that the PSD Government must have a “conversational and humble” attitude in the negotiations on the State Budget for 2025.

“You must have a conversational, humble attitude and know how to negotiate in the situation you are in, which is a government based on a parliamentary minority”, said Luísa Salgueiro in an interview with the Lusa group in relation to the negotiation of the State Budget.

At a time when talks are going on between the executive team of Luís Montenegro and the PS to bring positions closer, the socialist pointed out that the “greatest responsibility” is on the Government.

Remembering that PSD and PS have the same number of representatives in the Senate of the Republic, the mayor, who is also the head of the Matosinhos City Council, in the Porto region, asked that it is the Government that ” the biggest burden to overcome. budget”, which is the main governing document of his mandate.

“So, if you want to see your budget, it’s up to the Government to take the initiatives to make this happen, it’s up to the Government to bring it in, it’s up to to the Government to present the proposals that will receive more approval from. the majority of the parliament”, he said.

Although there has already been “more rapprochement” between the parties during the meetings they held, the mayor pointed out that this rapprochement is “not yet finished” and that “there are no implausible proposals”.

Recommending the openness and opportunity of the secretary general of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, to negotiate the document with the prime minister, Luísa Salgueiro said that with this situation, it is the duty of the Government to move closer on socialist proposals and guarantee stability.

“The general secretary of the PS always said that he is available for negotiation, that he does not want early elections or an emergency, but he cannot make this commitment at all costs,” he recalled.

And he said: “Pedro Nuno Santos is making an effort, obviously respecting his ideological matrix and the program with which he applied himself for suffrage, to be able to make the budget possible”.

According to the mayor, the general secretary of the PS, with the PS “very united” around him, has “proper behavior, even unbelievable”.

She could not guess whether or not there will be a State Budget, Luísa Salgueiro said she hopes there will be one because it was good for the country.

The State Budget for 2025 must be delivered to the Senate of the Republic by October 10 and agreement is still uncertain, since the PSD and the CDS-PP have a total of 80 deputies, which is not enough to make ensure that the document is valid.

In practice, only stopping the PS or voting for Chega guarantees approval of OE2025.

However, on Friday night, the secretary general of the PS believed that the country was “on the way to make the State Budget possible” and he appreciated the approach taken by the government, after they counter-proposed already submitted to the Prime Minister.
