Even the National Administration of Medicines, Foods and Medical Technology (ANMAT) of Argentina authorized the drug (marketed under the name Wegovy™) for the treatment of obesity and weight loss.
The medicine that has become famous caused a shortage in the United States because several celebrities have recommended it among their followers for weight loss.
“The active ingredient in Ozempic, semaglutide, is a GLP-Q receptor agonist. It acts in the same way as GLP-1 (a hormone produced in the intestine) by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in response to food. In this way, it helps control blood glucose levels,” explains the European Medicines Agency.
Among its adverse effects are digestive problems such as diarrhea, vomiting and nausea, although of mild or moderate intensity and short duration that affect only one in 10 patients.
