ANM warning: Yellow rain code and orange blizzard code. What are the affected regions?

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued on Sunday a code orange warning of strong blizzard and two yellow code warnings of wind. The warnings are in place until Wednesday, February 22.

The orange code is valid in mountainous areas, at altitudes higher than 1,700 meters.

“At altitudes above 1700 m there will be periods when the wind will blow hard, with gusts of over 110…130 km/h, there will be strong blizzards and significantly reduced visibility. During the day of Sunday and during the night from Sunday to Monday there will be precipitation predominantly in the form of snow and through accumulation the quantities will exceed 20…25 l/m2 and a new layer of snow will be deposited”, states ANM.

Also, the yellow wind code is valid for mountain areas, at altitudes higher than 1,500 meters. Above this altitude, the wind will gust up to 100 kilometers per hour.

“During Sunday, at altitudes below 1,700 m, there will be precipitation predominantly in the form of rain and through accumulation, the amounts of water will exceed 15…20 l/m², favoring the melting of the snow layer”, according to ANM.

A yellow wind code was also established during this period in the area of ​​Transylvania and southwest Oltenia, and the wind will reach 85 km/h in the counties of Brașov and Covasna.
