The return of MagSafe was one of the most controversial decisions that Apple made with the presentation of the iPhone 12; especially since Apple itself has failed to demonstrate its true potential.
The MagSafe devices that have arrived in Spain are wireless chargers, as well as covers and a card holder; some of the chargers are also not very good, with some problems or unable to take advantage of the full power of MagSafe.
But without a doubt, the most incomprehensible thing about the relaunch of MagSafe is that Apple has not yet launched an external battery, which allows us to gain more hours of use on our iPhone.
Anker MagSafe battery
At least we won’t have to wait long, even if we do have to rely on a third party to make such an obvious device a reality. In this case, Anker has been the one that has been ahead of the rest, with a battery that we can attach to our iPhone magnetically.

It is a concept that does not have much mystery. The Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank is not only a 5,000 mAh external battery, it is also capable of recharging other devices wirelessly.
Thanks to the magnets built into the housing, this external battery ‘sticks’ to the back of our iPhone and recharges it automatically. It is true that this makes the mobile phone somewhat more difficult to hold with one hand, due to the added thickness and the shape of the battery itself; but it is typical with this type of external batteries.
Recharge your iPhone
Despite the 5,000 mAh capacity, Anker empirically shows us that wireless charging is less efficient than cable charging; And this battery is not capable of fully recharging three of the four iPhone in the range, despite having smaller batteries.
Only an iPhone 12 Mini, with a smaller battery, can be recharged 100%; iPhone 12 recharges only 95%, iPhone 12 Pro 97%, and iPhone 12 Pro Max 75%. It is the big problem with wireless charging, that we are losing energy that we could use better with a cable.

Another drawback is that this is not actually an official MagSafe device; For this reason, it cannot recharge at a power of 15 W as is theoretically possible, remaining only at 7.5 W.
But if that does not matter to us, this charger can be a good help to complete the day if we use the iPhone constantly. Which makes us wonder why Apple hasn’t released it earlier. The problems of this device, such as thickness or efficiency, may indicate that Apple is still thinking about how to solve them; for example, with a battery case like the one already available for the iPhone 11.
These Anker batteries are already available in some markets, and should not take long to arrive in Spain; the price in the US starts at $ 37.99.
