Faruk Koca, president of Ankaragucu who punched referee Halil Umut Meler, has been banned permanently, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced this Thursday.
The organization’s Disciplinary Board imposed a five-year suspension which, as it exceeds the three-year limit, becomes permanent. It was also decided that Ankaragucu will play behind closed doors in the next five home games and a fine of around 63 thousand euros was imposed.
After the draw between Ankaragucu and Rizespor, Koca invaded the pitch and punched the referee, before other members of the host club kicked Umut Meler. After being detained, Koca resigned from his position and apologized for the violent act.
Furthermore, other Ankaragucu leaders were also sanctioned, two of them with punishment similar to that of the former president.
Turkish football was suspended, but will resume on December 19th.
