The president of Ankaragücü, Faruk Koca, was arrested this Tuesday morning after having referee Halil Umut Meler punched after yesterday’s match against Rizespor, which ended in a 1-1 draw. According to ‘Fanatik’, the top leader of Ankaragücü and two other people were arrested for “injuring a public servant”, who was left lying on the ground with swelling next to his left eye.

Upon being detained, Koca gave a brief statement to journalists in which he stated that he only hit Halil Umut Meler lightly. “My goal was to react verbally, but I ended up punching him. The punch I threw does not cause a fracture. This incident was caused by the referee’s bad decisions.”
It should be noted that, after what happened, the Turkish federation decided suspend football in that country. The referee in question, Halil Umut Meler, recently managed Bosnia-Portugal, Salzburg-Benfica and Real Madrid-Sp. Braga, which all took place this season.
