Turkish diplomacy should be proactive, aimed at eliminating contradictions and solving problems. This was stated by Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, speaking today, August 8, at the opening of the 13th conference of ambassadors in Ankara, Anadolu news agency reports.
According to him, the efforts of Turkish diplomats are taking place both on a bilateral basis and in the context of international organizations and tripartite dialogue mechanisms. Cavusoglu stressed that the motto for every Turkish diplomat is the precepts of the founder of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Kemalya Ataturk.
The head of the Foreign Ministry further drew attention to the fact that the world community is on the eve of major geopolitical changes associated with instability and obstacles to the development of states.
“The leading geopolitical players are in a tough confrontation. And there are many reasons for that, the minister noted.
The crisis over Ukraine made many realize the importance of Turkey, Cavusoglu argued.
“Turkey is a country whose support is sought during any crisis. Our country is a strong partner”, – he said.
According to him, Ankara’s efforts in Ukraine, including the issue of reaching a grain agreement, have become a showcase for Turkish diplomacy.
“Turkey stands for a just peace in Ukraine. We provide strong support to Kyiv and actively promote the idea of dialogue, including through the efforts of the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Russia and Ukraine have previously been in contact in Antalya and Istanbul,” the minister recalled.
Recall that in recent years Turkey has been actively trying to mediate in resolving various conflicts along the perimeter of its borders, but such efforts most often remain unclaimed or ineffective, given the very aggressive foreign policy of Ankara itself in the areas of its national interests. Currently, the Middle Eastern country – a member of NATO is focused on the role of “peacemaker” in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
