Winner Anjet Daanje – whose name is Anjet den Boer – has been writing novels under her mother’s surname for 30 years. She has also written a lot of screenplays for short films and series. Her book “The song of stork and dromedary” is a clapper of 656 pages and is about the life after death of the deceased main character Eliza May Drayden.
With the Libris Literature Prize, Daanje received her second major literary award for this book, after she also won the Boekenbon Literature Prize. That is the former AKO Literature Prize for fiction and non-fiction. As the winner of the Libris Literature Prize, Daanje receives a bronze medal and a check for 50,000 euros.
The story of “The song of stork and dromedary” starts in 1847 and crosses a long period of several centuries up to the present day in eleven chapters with eleven different narrators. Readers get to know Eliza May through the stories she wrote herself and stories from people who knew her.
