Anita, overwhelmed by Rumpelstiltskin’s performance at the Spring Concert in Deil: “A musical celebration for all”

Anita van Gelderen (55) has been playing the bugle with De Volharding for about thirty years. She had also been looking forward to the performance in village hall ‘t Duifhuis. ,,We always have two concerts early in the year. First there was the Warm Winter Concert in the church of Enspijk and then we prepared for this one from mid-January Night of the Proms.”

The musical offer for about 150 listeners was varied. By Sir Dukean evergreen from Stevie Wonder to Top of Rob, a medley of hits by singer Rob de Nijs. ,,But what I found most special was our performance of Rapunzelin Dutch Rumpelstiltskin”, Van Gelderen looks back. “It’s such a beautiful piece. In the rhythm of the music, Netty van Vrouwwerff, a musician herself, told the story of Rumpelstiltskin. That coordination between word and music is so precise. We rehearsed this one more time the evening before the performance. You want it to sound good.”

The concert evening in ‘t Duifhuis was opened by the youth orchestra, after which it was the turn of the drum corps. When the days get longer, the fanfare will also be regularly heard in the open air.

“Our corps has about 35 members from the two villages,” says Van Gelderen. ,,We perform during the annual fairs in Enspijk and Deil, of course also on King’s Day. We always played during the Red Cross Blossom Walk in Geldermalsen. Not everyone can still do that on foot, older members participate sitting in a cart. This way, making music with the corps remains a party for everyone.”
