After an excursion into the culinary world of France in “Ratatouille” (2007) and to the breathtaking Scottish Highlands in “Merida” (2012), Disney-Pixar’s latest trick “Lica” is playing again in front of a European backdrop.
Staged by Oscar-nominated director Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and produced by Andrea Warren (“Lava,” Cars 3), the Dolce Vita of Italy is this time the backdrop for the unique, warm-hearted, funny and extraordinary stories that only Pixar can do she can tell.
This is what “Luca” is about
The warm-hearted latest Pixar comedy takes place in a beautiful coastal town on the Italian Riviera. Here the little boy Luca experiences the summer of his life together with his new, best friend – full of ice cream, pasta and endless scooter rides. But above all the fun lies a deep secret: The two are sea monsters from another world that lies below the surface of the sea …

“It’s a pretty personal story for me,” says director Enrico Casarosa, “and not just because the film is set on the Italian Riviera, where I grew up, but because it’s essentially about friendship, which is celebrated here. Childhood friendships often indicate who we want to be and it is these close connections that make up the heart of ‘Luca’.
