Animals keep escaping in the Freiburg region – Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district

Whether kangaroos, cattle, goats or emus: A look at the Freiburg region shows that not only the Barbary apes from the Tatzmania amusement park like to break out of their enclosures.

The Barbary macaques in the Tatzmania amusement park in Löffingen have it all. They have proven this in the past with numerous escapes from their enclosure. It remains to be seen whether they will be held back by a newly built concrete wall. But a look at the Freiburg region shows that other animals like to escape too.
Doe on the run

In the Black Forest Zoo in Waldkirch, an emu last escaped in the spring of this year, says operations manager Ralf Volk. This was the second emu outbreak since 2013. The Bennet kangaroos are responsible for three. The animals always stayed within the zoo, says Volk. As a rule, it is sufficient to hold the door to their enclosure for the escaped animals. “They would like to go back to their colleagues.”
