Animal Slaughter in RPH Not Affected by FMD Outbreak

MAYANGAN, Radar Bromo – Although the FMD outbreak in Probolinggo City continues to increase, this does not affect the condition of the slaughterhouse (RPH). Enthusiasm for slaughtering livestock is still high.

Head of the Department of Agriculture, Food Security and Fisheries (DPKPP) of Probolinggo City, Aries Santoso, said that the RPH will continue to serve slaughtering animals as usual. Even though there is a PMK, the number of cattle slaughtered is still normal.

Previously, outside of the sacrificial festival, on average in a month, RPH could slaughter between two and four livestock. Be it cows or goats. For now, it can still serve up to four livestock in a month.

“No effect. There’s even a slight improvement. Previously, it was about three cattle, now it can even be four which are slaughtered at the RPH,” he said.

This condition is inseparable from the community’s desire so that the livestock consumed can be kept safe and clean. Moreover, at the RPH there is a veterinarian who monitors the condition of the incoming livestock.

According to him, when there are cattle that want to be slaughtered, the RPH usually checks their health first. They are in isolation for 14 days. If for two weeks still declared healthy then cutting can be done.

“Indeed, in the current PMK condition, we routinely conduct outreach to the community to slaughter their livestock at the RPH to make it safer,” explained Aries. (riz/fun)
