Animal Crossing: New Horizons Review – Nice and relaxed

In summary

Playing New Horizons takes time and that is exactly its charm. It is a game in which you water flowers and shake trees, hoping that something will fall out. That may seem boring, but it is not. Because the game follows the ‘real’ clock, it requires a lot of patience from the player. You will have to surrender to that. Play for a few hours a day, talk to your islanders, collect some building materials, plant a tree or a flower and take life and Animal Crossing as it comes. The essence of this game is that you are surprised by the little things that are different every day. Unfortunately, this is not for everyone.

Final verdict

These are hectic times. Many people’s lives are turned upside down by the virus that is floating around. There is much to arrange, there is much to organize and there is unrest. That is why it might be a good idea to escape reality from time to time and have just released a game that can do that excellently. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game that makes you very relaxed. If we don’t consider the spin-offs, this is the fifth game in the series, and with New Horizons Nintendo is breaking new ground.

Not for everyone

A little warning in advance: Animal Crossing is a series that is not appreciated by everyone. In fact, these are games about which the opinions are strongly divided. Either you like it or you don’t like it at all; you understand the relaxing vibe of the game or your hair will stand on end, and the same goes for the newest part: New Horizons.

Like the previous parts, New Horizons is a game in which you do not much more than watering plants, collecting shells, gathering wood and catching butterflies. From early in the morning until late at night. The game hardly serves any purpose and there are no dangers to overcome. There is not even a real challenge. And yet the game is entertaining, provided you are open to it.
