Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Presidential candidate (candidate) Anies Baswedan said there was a coordinating minister (menko) who wanted to change the Indonesian constitution.
This was conveyed in the ‘National Gathering and Dialogue of KAHMI Leaders’ which was held by KAHMI Jaya in Ancol, Jakarta, Thursday (16/3) evening.
“How come there are people who are in a key position, the Coordinating Minister, saying to change the constitution by how many people want to support it,” said Anies.
However, Anies did not mention what the Coordinating Minister wanted to change the constitution.
He admitted that he could not imagine the top officials of this country saying they wanted to change the constitution openly. He considered that if there is a controversial opinion like that, it must be expressed in a closed room.
Anies believes that such conditions do not indicate the declining quality of Indonesian democracy. For him, this condition occurs when people who are not committed to democracy have the courage to express their thoughts openly.
“This is not reducing the quality of democracy, but people who are not committed to democracy are more courageous in expressing their thoughts openly,” said Anies.
“So it’s not taboo. This is something that must be fought. Why? This is not against people, but saving the spirit of reform that we carried out in 1998. So we take care of it. Because otherwise it will be damaged,” he added.
Seeing this condition, Anies assessed that the rules of the game should be respected and maintained. If this condition is maintained, he is optimistic that conditions will be better in the future.
“What we need fair play, equal opportunity, neutrality of the authorities. If that happens, God willing, what we are trying to do will be implemented,” Anies said.
Met after the event, Anies was reluctant to mention whose Coordinating Minister he was alluding to.
“Yes, that’s what I said earlier,” said Anies.
