Anies Responds to Employers’ Protests about UMP: This is Common Sense

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan said the increase in the provincial minimum wage (UMP) Jakarta 2022 only 0.8 percent or Rp37,749 destroys the sense of justice. Anies asked all parties to use common sense in seeing the amount of the UMP.

This was conveyed by Anies in response to the protests of a number of businessmen against the Decree of the Governor of DKI Jakarta which raised the Jakarta UMP by 5.1 percent or Rp. 225,667.

“The sense of justice is clearly disturbed. That’s why we studied it, so that in the end the figure came out from (calculation of) inflation and growth. From there, the figure was 5.1 percent,” said Anies at City Hall DKI Jakarta, Monday (20/12). ).

Anies said that businessmen in Jakarta are already used to raising the UMP by 8.6 percent. This has been done for the last six years.

He said the increase in the UMP last year was only 3.3 percent because the economy slumped due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, said Anies, when the economy has improved this year the formula for calculating the UMP only increases wages by 0.8 percent.

Wong if it’s only 3.3 percent in heavy conditions, how come using this formula comes out 0.8 percent?” said Anies.

Anies asked all parties to think objectively because when the economy slumped last year, the UMP amount could increase by 3.3 percent. Meanwhile, when it improved, it only rose 0.8 percent.

“This year the economy has moved, when we still say 0.8 is the right number. This is common sense, right? common sense,” said Anies.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan previously revised the increase in the 2022 DKI UMP. In a written statement, Saturday (18/12), Anies said this decision took into account the positive sentiments of a number of studies.

One of them is a study by Bank Indonesia (BI) which states that the projection of Indonesia’s economic growth in 2022 is 4.7 percent to 5.5 percent.

Anies’ decision was later protested by the DKI Jakarta Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo). They stated that they would sue the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan to the State Administrative Court (PTUN).

According to Deputy Chairperson of the Apindo Jakarta DPP, Nurjaman, this was done because Anies’ policy has the potential to violate the rules, in this case Government Regulation (PP) Number 36 of 2021 concerning Wages.

“If the Governor makes an attempt to change the previous Governor’s Regulation (Pergub), then we will take legal action, including a lawsuit to the Administrative Court,” said Nurjaman when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (18/12).
