Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The stock market for vice presidential candidates (cawapres) to accompany certain presidential candidates (candidates), who will fight in the 2024 General Election (Election) is getting hotter.
Shocking news came from the Coalition for Change for Unity (KPP). The presidential candidate Anies Rasyid Baswedan, who was supposed to partner with the Democratic Party general chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), was cancelled.
The Democratic Party revealed that Anies was instead paired with the General Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin.
Democrat Secretary General Teuku Riefky Harsya, in his statement on Thursday (31/8/2023), said that the change had occurred suddenly.
“Something unexpected and hard to believe happened. In the midst of the process of finalizing the work of the coalition political parties with the Anies presidential candidate and preparing for the declaration, a fundamental and surprising change suddenly occurred,” he said.
“On Tuesday night, August 29, 2023, at the Nasdem Tower, the General Chair of the Nasdem Party Surya Paloh suddenly appointed the General Chair of the PKB Muhaimin Iskandar as Anies’ Vice Presidential Candidate, without the knowledge of the Democratic Party and PKS,” he explained.
Riefky revealed that suddenly the Ketum Nasdem Surya Paloh was working with PKB and carrying the pair Anies-Cak Imin. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party and the PKS, which are a coalition, were ‘forced’ to approve the decision.
Previously, the Democratic Party, one of the parties that carried Anies Rasyid Baswedan as a presidential candidate, had sent a candidate for the name of vice presidential candidate for the former governor of Jakarta.
On the other hand, the name Cak Imin himself has been discussed as a candidate for vice presidential candidate for presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo. Thus, the remaining two names of candidates, including Mayor of Solo Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir.
Deputy Chairman of PAN Yandri Susanto said that Prabowo’s chances of winning in the 2024 presidential election would be even greater if he was partnered with Erick Thohir.
“Because Pak Prabowo has a high chance of winning (Pilpres 2024) with Pak Prabowo’s survey, Pak Erick is tall, then he is young, energetic, has achievements, I think it is right if Pak Prabowo later takes ET (Erick Thohir),” said Yandri at the Complex MPR/DPR, Senayan, Jakarta, last Monday quoted on Saturday (2/9/2023).
Previously, the general chairman of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto, revealed that President Jokowi’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, has the potential to become a candidate for vice president to accompany Prabowo Subianto.
Airlangga said the options depended on the dynamics that would occur. According to him, now is the last round of determining the presidential election candidates. Airlangga admitted that there had been no specific decision regarding Prabowo’s running mate.
“Yes, this, right, the last chapter still has some developments. We’ll see what happens next,” said Airlangga.
