DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated the change of 22 street names in the Jakarta area. The street names are taken from the names ofBetawi figures.
“By saying bismillahirrohmannirrohim, “Today, Monday, June 20, 2022, the name of the road is officially determined, the zone with the name of a Betawi figure and the name of a figure from Jakarta in the DKI Jakarta Province,” said Anies at the inauguration ceremony for the street name of a Betawi figure at the Betawi Cultural Village Management Unit Office, in Jakarta. Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, Monday (20/6/2022).
Anies said the Betawi figure who is now used as a street name had a role for Jakarta in the past. He was grateful that the inauguration of the 22 street names could be carried out.
“We start by thanking Allah SWT on this quiet afternoon we can gather together in Setu Babakan Betawi Village together to witness the ceremony of determining the names, figures ofBetawi figureswhose role in the past has had an impact on the journey of Jakarta’s life, the journey of Indonesian life,” he said.
“They are individuals that we remember because they have provided benefits to others,” he added.
He said the names of the Betawi figures had been recorded as national heroes. But he said there are still many Betawi figures meritorious who has not been recorded as a national hero.
“These are individuals who we remember who we remember because their lives were donated for progress, there are names that have become national heroes but there are also so many meritorious names that have not been recorded as national heroes,” he said.
He said the Betawi people had contributed to Indonesia by welcoming and warmly receiving migrants from various regions. He hopes that the name of the new street will be a reminder of the growth of the Betawi figure in Jakarta.
