Anies Criticizes New Renewable Energy Target of 23% in 2025: Mission Impossible!

Jakarta

Presidential candidate (capres) Anies Baswedan criticized President Joko Widodo’s government target regarding new renewable energy (EBT) for 2025 to be 23%. According to him, pursuing this target is a mission that cannot possibly be realized.

“We have a new renewable energy target, if I’m not mistaken, in 2025, we hope that 23% of new energy will be integrated. Currently it’s only 12%. To catch that 11% within 2 years is mission impossible,” said Anies at the 2024 Apindo Presidential Candidate Dialogue. at the Bank Mega Building, Monday (11/12/2023).

Anies said that the target for EBT should not be done using an overnight speed system. According to him, it must be done in collaboration between the government and other stakeholders.

“Don’t be like when we were in college, we often had our SKS exams pushed by the overnight speeding system. This energy transition cannot be done if it is not done correctly from the start,” he explained.

The former Governor of DKI Jakarta said that the energy transition process also requires incentives for consumers. Then, if later he is elected as a targeted president, households will also contribute to realizing the energy transition.

“We actually have a business opportunity for these houses, where the roofs of the houses can be rented out to use as solar panels. If we look for empty land to build solar panels, it’s a mission impossible,” he explained.
