Anies Baswedan Urges Supporters to Fearlessly Show Support for Presidential Candidate

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Future presidential candidate Anies Baswedan asked his volunteers not to be afraid to show their choice of presidential candidate openly even though there was an incident where his billboard was damaged in the regions. According to Anies, he came to the area with ideas and ideas about justice, so there was no reason for his volunteers to feel afraid of this attitude of anarchism.

“Don’t be afraid of those who like to tear billboard, don’t be afraid if a billboard is torn down, if a poster is torn up, don’t just take a photo, submit a report to the police! Later we will show who values ​​opinions and aspirations,” Anies said in his speech at the Tennis Indoor Senayan, Central Jakarta, Sunday, May 21, 2023.

Even though his attributes were damaged by irresponsible people, Anies asked his volunteers not to do the same. He instructed the volunteers not to make banners rejecting the presence of a competing presidential candidate.

“We welcome anyone’s arrival while saying, we are ready to be compared, we are ready to be compared, and we are sure that our ideas, our work, our track record, our programs, when compared, will be able to invite all of Indonesia to a better Indonesia. ,” Anies said.

Billboard vandalism was reported to the police

Previously, the destruction of Anies’ billboards occurred in Jember, East Java. A number of billboards installed along the road from Notohadinegoro Airport to the hotel where Anies was staying on Jalan Sentot Prawirodirjo were damaged by unknown persons.

Meanwhile, Jember DPRD member David Handoko Seto reported the case of vandalizing Anies Baswedan’s billboard to the Jember Police, Tuesday afternoon, May 9 2023.

David, who is a member of the NasDem faction, recounted the chronology of the destruction of Anies Baswedan’s billboards. David could not confirm when a number of billboards were destroyed. His party only found out about the damage to the billboards on Sunday afternoon, May 7 2023.

“It is possible that early Sunday the vandalism was carried out. We just reported it last Tuesday afternoon,” said David when contacted TempoWednesday morning, May 10, 2023.

Prior to the vandalism, said David, his party took down three provocative billboards at three points between Notohadinegoro Airport and the hotel where Anies was staying. The three billboards read ‘Jember Society Rejects Anti-NKRI Presidential Candidates’.

He said the billboards were taken down on Friday evening, 5 May 2023 ahead of Saturday, 6 May 2023 ahead of Anies’ arrival on Saturday afternoon. “I still have that provocative billboard,” David added.

David said that a number of Anies’s billboards which were damaged were allegedly done on purpose. “There are only the skeletons left, some are partially damaged. It was not damaged by the wind. It was intentional,” he said.

According to David, the destruction of Anies Baswedan’s billboard has increased political tension in Jember. “But we have appealed to volunteers to remain calm and not be provoked,” said David.

As previously reported, Anies visited Jember last Saturday to Sunday, May 6-7 2023. During two days in Jember, Anies met with volunteers and greeted the community. Anies also met with hundreds of Kiai in Jember and held congregational dawn prayers on Sunday morning.

Anies Baswedan also visited the graves of a number of clerics in Jember before attending Haul Habib Sholeh bin Hamid in Tanggul, Jember. At the same time, presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo also visited Jember. Ganjar also greeted volunteers and the people of Jember at the Jember Town Square.
